Multiple vitamins and minerals serve as critical co-factors in the support of healthy neurotransmitter functioning. Neurotransmitters such as serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine are what help us manage our moods, energy states, and sense of well-being. Deficiencies in vitamins and minerals impact neurotransmitter functioning and are related to various mood disorders and changes in mental health. I utilize different labs to assess biochemical markers to assess deficiencies/abnormalities and provide each patient with an individualized supplement protocol.
I utilize medication to help stabilize patients and reduce problematic symptoms. I believe in the “less is more” approach and try to lower dosages and/or discontinue medication when appropriate
I value interdisciplinary communication and will often speak to other treatment providers including therapists, medical doctors, parents/family, school/educational institutions and more. I will provide referrals and recommendations to other providers when necessary to support healing and diagnostic support (eg, Neuropsychological Evaluation, Neurology to rule out medical etiology, Infectious Disease). I am happy to attend IEP meetings and/or other collaborative meetings to serve as an advocate for my patient’s needs throughout treatment.
I educate clients about their symptoms to increase feelings of self-efficacy and empowerment. By having a “toolkit” of resources, patients are able to cope with various situations that arise in a more effective and healthy way. Based on the evaluation, I provide recommendations for appropriate books, videos, research articles, sensory tools, and more.
